CUPID’S DEMANDING BACK HIS ARROW
I’d be damned cupid’s
demanding back his arrow.
But are we
all lost stars, trying to light up dark?
~~ Lost
Stars (Adam Levine)
There are tons
of people who mock love and the idea of a soulmate. I am in fact one of those
people. Then why are most songs about love and finding the one? Why do all the
dramas end in happily ever after? Why is every sonnet sung for the loved one? It
is a given that we write or paint or dream about the things we desire the most.
So, amidst all the drama, are we all secretly looking for love? Is that the
reason we keep falling in the vortex of failed relationships and ultimately
blame the idea of Love and Mr. Shakespeare who talks about nothing but love.
Mr.
Shakespeare also said, “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind,
And therefore is winged cupid painted blind.” Probably that’s the reason for so
many heartbreaks and sad songs, the blind cupid! If he can’t see, how does he
even know if two people are good for each other! He should do a detailed analysis.
He should study about their likes and dislikes; he should be able to predict
their future goals and examine if they sync well before randomly shooting
people with his stupid arrow. Or maybe the cupid is as short-sighted as we get
when we feel the butterflies that we ignore the reason or permutations and
combinations to be able to have a future together. Most of us prefer a few days
of bliss rather than a lifetime of harmony. Is it cynical to assume that this
thing we call love is just a fancy word for validation and lust?
THIS SONG IS FROM THE MOVIE BEGIN AGAIN |
Pardon my
heavy criticism for this transient romance but I believe it causes more damage
than we picture. Why are we causing pain or suffering pain in the name of love?
Not sure about what to feel, because the love in front of us is not the love we
dreamt of? Every heartbroken person is infecting more people with the same, it
spreads rapidly. Are we just using one person to forget the other? I read
somewhere If you don’t heal from what hurt you then you would bleed on people
who didn’t cut you. Therefore, it is imperative to reflect upon the pain that
you suffered to avoid being the one causing someone a similar pain. It is
okay to mourn, be sad and cry to get over the loss of ‘love’ or what you thought
was love.
Sometimes
we just end up being in a relationship or want to be in one to avoid feeling
lonely. A BBC study has shown that the age group of 16 to 25 are the ones who
feel lonely the most contrasting to the popular belief that the older age group
(above 60) are the ones who feel most alone. Why do we feel lonely? After a
detailed analysis, I think it is safe to infer that this is a loneliness which
can’t be defeated by finding the one. This feeling is the product of absolute
lack of reflection upon what we really want and merely replicating what our
peers are doing. Every intelligent person says that finding yourself is much
more important than finding someone else and expecting them to be everything
you ever wanted to be.
In the end
I just want to say that there is only one relationship you need to be in right
now, that is with yourself. There is no cupid needed for that. Stop expecting a
person to come along in your little fairyland to save you from the monotony of
life. You don’t need saving; you need to gather your pieces to complete this
jigsaw and figure out your purpose in life. Maybe this blog is not for you but
it definitely is for someone like me who got caught up in this false pretense
to avoid overcoming all the shortcomings in themselves! You are not a
damsel-in-distress waiting for a lover but you are Just a Damsel in stress!
