IS IT JUST ME OR IS IT GETTING CRAZIER OUT THERE?
Everybody loves
heroes, especially superheroes. They are the embodiment of strength, power,
honesty, and likeability. Who doesn’t want to be a superhero? Maybe somebody who
wants to be a supervillain, nope? Just me then!
The first
time I saw Joker, the movie; I was so fascinated by the idea of being fascinated
with villains. The super success of the movie proves that it's not just me who
fell in love with Arthur Fleck. We sympathized with him and almost validated
all his wrongdoings with justified reasoning. A person who is as sad and depressed as
he is bound to get crazy and commit a few murders. When the world is unkind there
is little a person can do but reciprocate the same. Every one of us is
standing at the edge avoiding to be pushed into becoming a person we won’t be able
to recognize. Naah, it was just the movie!!
MOVIE: THE JOKER |
So here are
the real reasons why we are fascinated by supervillains (and secretly being a
potential criminal isn’t one of them) ----
POWER
When Cercei
retorted to Petyr Baelish “Power is Power” while he tried to threaten her,
I am sure you all felt the same chills as I did. This is one of the major reasons
why we are envious as well as enchanted by the villains, the power they hold! The sense
of authority and right to dismiss somebody else’s opinion makes us want to be the
bad guy. The good guy listens to everyone, even Tony Stark had to work in a
team but the supervillain can work alone and his wish is everybody’s command! Not
democratic but surely interesting, probably North Koreans are also fascinated
by supervillains.
APPEALING
TO OUR ID EGO
According to
Sigmund Freud's personality trait theories there are three structures to our
mind, the ego, the superego, and the id. The id is the most primitive
and is concerned with the instant gratification of basic physical needs. Speaking in
the most understandable language, the id is basically the asshole in us
who doesn’t care for anyone and does whatever the hell it wants. Living in society
we curb our id ego and strike a balance between the ego and superego to do what
is right and effectively avoiding just what we want! However, that personality trait of being
relentlessly selfish is still somewhere in us and therefore when a supervillain
is being an asshole, we secretly relate to them as deep down, very very deep
down we are assholes ourselves. So, this id dwells underneath and catalyze
wish fulfillment for us!
VICTIM BLAMING
Hmmm, that’s
interesting. Familiar with this?
We do it
left, right and center all the time. Ohhh he was punched, probably he did something to
deserve it! This is the plot of most Hollywood movies with the conspiracy to
make us empathize with the bad guy. John Wick had to kill the Russian guy
because his dog was killed!
THEY
COMPLETE OUR SUPERHEROES
What is Batman
without Joker? Superman without Lex Luther? Thor without Loki? And the entire
cast of Avengers without Thanos?
What good
are the superheroes if they don’t defeat some real bad guys? The villains complete
them to make them what they are! Trust me Batman and Joker are a better couple
than Romeo and Juliet.
The reason
why I am writing is blog is because when I saw Joker, I researched deeply as to
why I was so fascinated by him and also, I wanted to confirm that I am not
murderous or a potential serial killer. Now that Joker is streaming on Amazon
Prime, all the sweet memories came running back to me, so I wrote this blog! If you haven't seen Joker, then please for the sake of humanity, go watch it now. Joker- On Prime Video!
Trust
me it is very interesting to read the psychology behind this and if you wish to
read more about the same, click here.
Amazing..!!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌❤❤
ReplyDeleteMy favorite super villain is Mojo JoJo. ;)
ReplyDeleteYeaaah he is super cool 😎
DeleteThanks Ms Joshi, for writing out about Joker. Let me complement you on your fabulous blogs. Now, Joker: indeed it's the best product of Todd Philips, more so because Joaquin Phoenix played the lead. No one have ever imagined Joker without Batman, but the same audience didn't missed Batman either. I too got carried away with Arthur after watching, strongest of my memories of recent past. Too much to express about Joker, but I will stop here.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you. Keep writing!
I could not agree more! Thanks :)
